Ryerson MBA Info Session
// February 13th, 2008 // life

Tonight I went to an information session on Ryerson’s MBA program. I’m more interested in it than U of T, where I attended an info session last month. Ryerson has an MBA specialization specifically for new media, which is the industry I work in and that’s quite appealing. However, there are some drawbacks; specifically, they expect you to have a Bachelor of Commerce undergrad degree, which I don’t have. They accept people from other degree programs, but you have to take foundation courses in stats, finance, etc. I’m not against that at all. Any prep work that will make me fully prepared for the MBA program is great… it’s the start date that’s the problem. For me to start an MBA in September (I wanted to start next fall or winter), I’d have to start the prep courses in May, which is bad timing for me. It’s too bad they don’t have any January start dates, like some other programs.
Still, the program itself interests me more. Enough so that it may be worth the wait until next May (2009). I’ll have to mull it all over. The session also concentrated mainly on their full time program and I’m only interested in part time (so that I can continue to work full time), so I’ll have to email them to get some more info on it.

It seems like a great program! I hope it turns out to be the right fit for you. Plus the location is so convenient.
Sounds interesting. Stats and finance are probably something you can pick up quickly. It’s not like they’re asking you to have a degree in these subjects, they just expect you to have a working knowledge. If you need any stats texts, I’ve got some from my mathie days.
I start at Ivey on Sunday. I’m totally pumped!
Wohoo! I’m pumped for you too Joel! Let me know how day 1 goes! You’re downtown each course right? Remember we live down here if you ever need to crash overnight or need a homemade meal.
If you are interested in the part time program then you do not have to wait until may. MBA part time at ryerson starts on September. you can double check on their website.
Thanks Sara. This is an old post, I’m a student at Ryerson’s MBA program now and loving it. I’m posting your comment though in case anyone else is curious about the same thing I was about back then.
