CBC Distributing Show with BitTorrent

I don’t blog about work often. This is pretty much a personal blog and posts about work seem out of place. Still, I gotta blog about what we announced today because I’m so excited about it. First, I gotta say that these are MY personal opinions and do not reflect those of CBC.

Today on the Canada’s Next Great Prime Minister blog, we announced that we’ll be the first major broadcaster in North America to distribute a high-quality non-DRM copy of a prime time television show. The blogosphere has exploded over the news. I’m happy because I’ve shot my mouth off before about how BitTorrents should be relevant to broadcasters. And now, we’re finally doing one– the right way.

All credit for the idea goes to my boss Tessa Sproule, who got the idea about distributing the show this way when reading this story on BoingBoing. The show producers Sarah Kapoor and Stuart Coxe were instrumental with their enthusiastic support.

We’ll be talking more about the process that everyone went through to make this happen. For now, I’m excited that I got to be a part of this and that people are really excited about what we’re doing.

The show is this Sunday at 7 pm on CBC Television. Watch!

UPDATE (3/24/08): the show is ready to download.

Bought this as a show of support for CBC and its adoption of the
    BitTorrent Protocol.
