FaceBookCampToronto

Tonight I attended the FaceBookCampToronto un-conference at the MaRS centre. It was the first BarCamp I’ve attended in Toronto and I was really happy I went. Dave Morin of Facebook was there presenting an overview of Facebook’s history, its applications and a hint at what’s to come; 2008 will see internationalization of Facebook and he told us to expect another big announcement from Facebook in the spring. Any guesses about what that is? He did touch on open source. Hrm…

Andrew Cherwenka from Trapeze presented a case study of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution project on Facebook. They’ve had real success there, but nothing like what we’ve managed to do on Facebook with Canada’s Next Great Prime Minister. I’m working on a case study of that project now and I’ll release it this month. Ours was a very interesting project with some groundbreaking work done. Anyway, I digress.

My favourite presentation of the evening was Facebook VS OpenSocial by Jawad Shuaib. He’s pictured in the photo above. Shuaib did an excellent job of covering both platform’s advantages & flaws, giving us hints for developing more interesting apps and was the funniest presenter of the evening.

I took some photos of the event and posted them to Flickr. Check them out here.
